Students of Grade -2 B were taken to the Maths Lab to learn the concept of Multiplication in a fun manner. Beads were placed in an egg box which already had partitions of six. Each partition was considered a group and according to the number of beads placed in each group, the multiplication and addition sentences were taught. For instance, if there were 3 beads in each partition and there were total of six partitions, then the multiplication sentence would be 6 times 3 or 6 x 3 = 18. The addition sentence would be 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18. The concept was further clarified through the game of ‘Fire in the mountain’ where the students ran in a circle and when a number was called out then they had to make a group of those many children. It was an enjoyable activity and helped clarify the doubts that the students may have had related to multiplication.
